About Lost and Looking
The idea for this website came out of a fairly recent obsession with the Missed Connections section on Craig’s List. Out of strange, fleeting moments, people feel a (perhaps imagined) sense of connection with others and through these ads, in their own ineffectual way, they are reaching out to feel it again.
Missed Connections makes me feel happy, sad, nostalgic and voyeuristic. It reminds me that the hundreds and thousands of unknown people passing by everyday all have their own strange world, their own unique perceptions and a desire for some kind of meaning.
I will try to post regularly using a Craig’s List post as inspiration. I will pull ads from wherever I am in the world, which is lately mostly around London, UK - but potentially other locations if I’m traveling. Unless otherwise noted, all photos are by me except for the image above, which was done by the lovely Allie.
Do you have a Missed Connection you want to share? A happy ending? A strange story? Get in touch by leaving a comment or emailing lostandlooking@googlemail.com. You can alsofollow along on Twitter or join the Facebook page (coming soon!). My name is Amy and you can find me on Twitter here. You can also find me on my personal blog Making Strange or on my company website Contentini (we do copywriting and content strategy). I have also recently launched a wanderlust inspiring travel website called A Tramp Abroad. I hope you’ll check it out.
Update: Sophie Blackwell is doing a similar project with Craig’s List Missed Connections in New York. There are some subtle differences apart from location - her entries are  illustrated as opposed to photography and she isn’t doing one every day. It’s definitely worth a visit!
